Flappr is a Flash 8 interface for Flickr. Its goal is to provide a more explorative way of browsing the best repository of publicly shared photographs on the Internet.
Features:
- Built upon Flashr, a data wrapper for Flickr and Flash created by Kelvinluck
- Sort by “interestingness” - Flickr’s recent ranking algorithm that puts more popular photos to the top of your search
- User tabs allow you to jump from the photos you are viewing to more photos by the user that took them
- Related tags along the top of the screen provide jumping points to similar tag searches
- You can now save a photo to your Flickr favorites list (authentication requried)
- You can quickly link to the photo’s page on Flickr
- … or to a permalink that brings you back to where you were looking in Flappr

i’m thinking about implementing a search bar that blogger’s could use to plug into their sidebar… not sure if this would be popularity. i guess it’s one of those “if you ask for it i’ll make it” kinda things…

excellent work! among the best i’ve seen…
would you please consider integrating a slideshow feature that upon selecting a radio button and specifying a slide duration (slider) would show a slideshow of the search results in the ‘main’ area? that way, if you enter a tag search term say, it would begin displaying a slideshow (maybe by default) of the search results so that a user can just sit back and enjoy the imagery without having to interact with the interface - then, at any moment, you could select a related tag, or other item and then just to another slideshow and its related tags, etc…
once again, keep up the great work!

i meant: just go to another slideshow - to expand: i’m thinking more along the lines of a screensaver that is interactive…thanks again…

trying to type letter “S” into the flappr comment box brings the cursor to the search bar. very annoying.

ahh, good catch on the “s” bug… it’s due to my not testing enough after implementing rudimentary keyboard shortcuts (”s” was meant to be an easy way to get back to the search bar) .. I’ll fix this for 1.1.4

Jonathan,
Once you’ve logged in on the Flickr site, you can click Your Account (near the top) and on the bottom right will be a link for Authentication List. You can click this link to remove permissions for Flappr or any other third party application.

Buck

Unfortunately I didn’t catch enough time over the weekend. I’m making small adjustments here and there - and also making the transition over to the new Flashr codebase. Hope to get this out over the next few days.

Any plans to let people use this great flash program for their personal websites? Will you be releasing the source code?
February 2nd, 2006 at 11:30 pm
I’ve been toying with the idea of releasing the source. There will be a point soon where I have to call off development at which point I’ll try to clean up my work to a point another human could understand

PAH!
I can’t use your Flapper only, why you create it with Flash8. Macromedia/Adobe has for Linux only 7.0.61 released.
Thats very BAD!

Ian, I loved what you did with Flex and Flickr, I have been looking for an app to make but there has been no time on my plate
Anyway, I would be interested in looking at some code or perhaps would you be interested in doing a presentation at my developer’s users group akmmug.org? Shoot me an email, let’s talk.

Hey i really love this. It’s especially good using it with Opera in fullscreen mode - you can get completely lost in a Flickr fantasy land haha
Although, some of the mini thumbnails seem to appear at a quarter of the size that they normally do in Opera. No idea why that would be though :\
But it’s still a lot of fun. Nice work!
